What We Do

Our Mission | What We Do | Community Partners

Building community through music...

Expertise in...

creativity, idea generation, community building, community involvement, diversity and of course music (and related arts) -- which serve as an ideal tool for accomplishing challenging ends.

Our work...
embraces the collaborative creative process by using the arts to facilitate teamwork, openness, leadership, writing skills, new relationships with others and the community, and the emergence of new ideas.

Our job...
is to help all individuals feel a part of the group and make sure everyone's voice is included, understanding that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. This ensures a process and product that everyone can get behind, whether it be a song or a strategic plan. We believe strongly that it is important to provide performance opportunities to allow individuals to speak to their community.

We are...
a facilitator, supporter, and catalyst in the community for building community through the arts, keeping in mind that youth are central to community growth and development.

Community Records L3C is committed to the inclusion of all populations including those of different gender, race, class, economic status, ethnic background, sexual orientation, age, physical ability, and cultural and religious backgrounds.

We are a provider of alternative arts education in the local schools. Everything we do is with the flair of building community, diversity, creativity, and relationships.

Our songwriting programs have also run at West Village Academy and The Dearborn Academy in Dearborn, MI, partnering with S.T.A.R. after school program, also a 21st CCLC-funded group. At these sites, students are coached through the collaborative songwriting process by experienced youth workers who have expertise in hip hop and other musical genres. Our partnership with Bright Futures has extended beyond three years. We look forward to growing our relationship with them.

Ozone House - Safe Place. Real Support.
Ozone House
CR L3C helps serves youth through creative programing at Ozone House's Drop-in Center in Ypsilanti, MI. The Drop-In is open to youth ages 13-20, who need a safe place to hang out. The Drop-In offers creative programming, constructive activities, and leadership opportunities. Most recently, CR L3C completed "My Story, Your Story, Our Story" with a group at Ozone House. This collaborative activity saw positive results as reported by the youth in that it wasn't just fun but the songwriting and recording process generated respect and stronger group cohesion. CR L3C also supports their annual youth expression event, Noise Permit, where young people get the opportunity to perfrom.
